A: Can Mag-Drive Pumps run dry? A common concern around mag-drive pumps is that they shouldn't run dry. While dry running can be catastrophic for most centrifugal pumps, a magnetic drive pump can be more vulnerable to damage from running dry because the pump liquid itself lubricates the bearings.

Q: How do you prime a magnetic drive pump?

A: For magnetic drive pumps, the shaft or bearings could be damaged. Priming the pump simply means filling the pump and the entire suction piping with liquid. The liquid will act as a lubricant/coolant between the stationary and dynamic parts.

Q: What are the advantages of magnetic pumps?

A: The main advantages of the magnetically driven gear pump are lack of dynamic seals, smooth flow, self priming, a direct relationship between pump rotational speed and flow and small size. Due to the lack of dynamic seals, they are very reliable.
